Top 5 Athlete Gifts for 2019

It's that time again and we're getting ready to run straight into the holidays where gift giving becomes one of our main focuses.

We get to work with a ton of athletes, and each year we get to hear what they want for we wanted to share with you some of the best gift options for athletes this year! We also want to share the gifts that can make the biggest impact on your athlete this new year. Some of these things are pretty straight forward and some of these will be brand new to you.

Do You Want To Be An Athlete

One of my favorite sayings goes something like this: If you want to be an athlete, you have to start doing what athletes do. 

Now granted, athletes do some goofy things sometimes if they have superstitious habits (wearing lucky socks, rubbing their lucky rabbit foot, or carrying around their lucky stuffed animal) but great athletes all do very similar things especially when it comes to recovery, sleep, and nutrition. We need to pay attention to these habits and actions, and figure out how we can add some of these things into our regimen.

So let's jump right in with number 1:

1. NormaTec Compression

2. Massage Gun (best decision ever!)

  • Cool down
  • Sore muscles
  • Injured muscles
  • Tight muscles
  • Stretching
  • Relaxing
  • Whenever my back is tight!

This 100% changed my warm up and I've even suggested this to some younger athletes who use it in the car on the way to gym. You could use it on thighs, calves, feet, and hips as you drive to practice.

My favorite application is on my hips because they get so tight. In the Gymnast Care Book on Injuries, I describe techniques using my hands, but using this instead is the way to go!

3. The Ultimate Low Tech Mobility Kit

Putting together your mobility kit is huge! What are those things that are going to give you the biggest bang for your buck? Here's my list of MUST HAVE mobility tools for athletes...each one of these opens in a new window so you can click, add to cart and then come back...makes it easy: 

These are just easy ways to get great, low tech recovery items. I use foam rollers and massage balls on a daily basis, not only with patients but with myself. 

4. Water Bottle

This is by far my favorite water bottle: CamelBak Podium Chill. This is my absolute go to water bottle that I use daily, and travels with me around the globe wherever I go. 

Problem: They've created a new version of this water bottle with a new lid/nozzle which I absolutely detest! The link above goes to the previous version which I love and I've been using for several years with great success. I'd pick one of the older versions up before they phase them out completely!

Athletes need to have a water bottle that they love, and they need to be sipping from it throughout the day. Their brains are going to tell them when they need fluids. If they don't have their water bottle at their fingertips, they're not going to drink from it. 

So find a bottle you or your athlete loves, and start sipping!

5. Athlete Performance Training

To me, this is the most important thing you can do for yourself and your athlete. If you keep doing the same thing over and over again, you can't expect new can only expect the same results. 

I don't want this for you. I want to see you have abundance in 2020. I want to see you and your athlete succeed and build habits that are going to last the rest of your life.
